Carbon Atom (C)

The Carbon Atom (C) is represented by two concentric circles of different sizes with the smaller circle having a dark purple color and the larger circle (annulus) having a light purple color. A group of red and light brown spheres are clumped together at the center of the circles. 6 yellow spheres with minus signs are moving continuously and randomly across the concentric circles.

Nucleus

Atoms contain three kinds of subatomic particles: protons, neutrons and electrons. Protons and neutrons make up the atom's central nucleus. Electrons move around the nucleus. This diagram greatly exaggerates the size of the particles relative to the size of the atom. Click on each button for more information.
